Arts District

Richmond is comprised of several neighborhoods with their own distinct personalities. Appropriately, Richmond's vibrant Arts District is rich in culture, and it's an eclectic neighborhood that's a great place to live or visit. Our real estate agents recommend their favorite spots to enjoy local art in this one-of-a-kind district.

  • Sandman Comedy Club - 401 E. Grace St., Richmond, VA 23219
Studies show that laughter relieves stress, boosts the immune system, and strengthens your heart. That means a visit to Sandman Comedy Club is as beneficial as a trip to the gym. Owners Michael and Carrie Sands made a lifelong dream a reality when they opened the club, which includes an extensive dinner menu and full bar. In addition to shows featuring top comedians every week from Thursday through Saturday, Sandman holds open mic and karaoke night every Sunday. Visit the website for the full calendar and ticket prices.

  • The National - 708 E. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23219
Whether you're a fan of rock, jazz, or country, you'll find it at The National. Built in 1923, The National is the last remaining auditorium of Richmond's Theatre Row. In 2003, the theater was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Upcoming shows include popular jam band Umphrey's McGee, iconic guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, and comedian and podcaster Nikki Glaser. The National has seven full bars throughout both floors of the theater and serves pizza by the slice for your convenience. Visit the website for full calendar and ticket prices.

  • Someday - 22 E. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23219
Like many people, Audie McDougall dreamed of having her own business "someday." When that dream became a reality, Audie cleverly chose Someday as the name of her shop. Someday specializes in home accessories and decor with an aesthetic Audie describes as "cozy modern." Customers are encouraged to browse at their leisure or simply relax for a while and enjoy the ambiance. Hours are 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and noon - 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

  • Virginia State Capitol - 1000 Bank St., Richmond, VA 23218
A visit to the Arts District isn't complete without viewing the Virginia State Capital, an impressive building with cultural and historical significance to the city, state, and country. Designed by Thomas Jefferson in the style of a classical Roman temple, the Capitol is a National Historic Monument and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Thanks to its stately appearance, the building has served as a stand-in for the White House and the United States Capitol in films such as Lincoln and The Candidate. The Capitol is open to the public 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

  • Candela Books + Gallery - 214 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23220
Candela Books + Gallery uses a two-pronged approach in its mission to support and promote photography as an art form. The gallery stages 10 to 12 exhibitions per year, while the book side publishes one to two titles annually that coordinate with specific exhibitions. When you make a purchase, the knowledgeable staff is ready to assist with any framing, delivery, and installation needs. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
